Newcastle-based Subco Engineering has transformed the way it delivers complex engineering projects after collaborating with the University of Sunderland through the Arrow innovation support programme.
The company operates across the offshore energy, oil and gas, and marine sectors. To improve project delivery, it developed the Subco Platform, a digital portal that gives clients, engineers and contractors clear visibility of projects from proposal through to completion.
Creating a stronger data foundation
To support the platform’s development, Subco worked with Gavin Vaughan, Senior Innovation Associate at the University of Sunderland. He carried out a detailed review of the company’s data and storage systems.
As a result, the business created a structured data framework that connects information across multiple systems. The new approach also makes engineering data easier to organise, manage and access.
Delivering measurable improvements
The collaboration has already improved efficiency for internal teams and external contractors. In addition, it has created a strong foundation for future AI-driven insights and ongoing business improvement.
Joe Hinchliffe, Technology Director at Subco Engineering, said:
“The Arrow support helped us scope our project and get it off the ground. The progress was fantastic, and the attention to detail and quality of the report were phenomenal.”
Supporting innovation through collaboration
The project demonstrates how collaboration between businesses and universities can accelerate innovation. It can also boost productivity and support long-term growth.
