1. What is your role at Sotech?

My name is Mohamadreza Jenaban and I am currently the Principal Technical Engineer at Sotech. I mainly deal with any queries coming from our clients or client’s engineers and this can be anything from how many fixings are required for a specific panel, to how a specific panel can be formed and be modelled in 3D and later manufactured with safety, performance and stability in mind.

I initially joined Sotech as a graduate engineer, working in most departments from Sales and Estimating to Design and Production. During the first couple of years of my employment, I introduced and implemented a robust 3D modelling platform within the design department, which is still used today. I then introduced and implemented Finite Element Method which became a department later as Technical Engineering, and I have been promoted to manage and lead the department I created within the business.

My day consists of performing various activities such as computer simulations, physical testing, modelling and answering technical queries internally and externally. Since sustainability is becoming a major part of what we do, I have taken on the additional task of creating our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our tested rainscreen systems. Not only this helps with sustainability queries and make Sotech transparent in terms of carbon footprint, but it will help us to understand and reduce our carbon emissions.

  1. What gets you out of bed in a morning?

For me it’s all about having goals and passion, a little hard work along the way can help too. For instance I always wanted to become an engineer, I told my dad when I was in secondary school that I wanted to specifically become a mechanical engineer and he asked me to write it down so I did. Years went on and on my graduation day he handed over to me an old piece of paper, when I looked at it the paper was the same paper, I wrote on I want to become a mechanical engineer.

My position at Sotech as a Principal Technical Engineer is like dream that has come true and I appreciate the opportunity. I love the fact when I am out with the family, I can show my wife and my daughter the buildings I helped to design, engineer and build all around us, the beautiful rainscreen facades and all the technical aspects behind it.

I get up every morning looking forward to work and help building another beautiful building with its new challenges and learning curve.
