Formed in the middle of the pandemic, SMS it is made up of three Directors. Adam Smith, Craig Wood and Peter Williams. Adam spent fifteen years in recruitment with Craig and Pete from the Automotive Sector with 30 years experience working with companies such as JLR, Mclaren, Bentley and BMW.
Due to their own frustrations of dealing with third party containment companies and no desire to outsource back office and recruitment they thought it would be beneficial for them to bring all of this inhouse as an offering to clients.
The first five months of the company’s inception was utilised in obtaining the ISO accreditations 9001/14001/45001/27001 and developing their own application, which is a paperless way of recording data. Not only is it saving quality teams on average 16 hours a week inputting data, it has made SMS the only third party containment company in the UK with a zero emissions policy.
One key differentiators is having inhouse quality, recruitment and payroll, allowing them to be more competitive in pricing. They have Operations Managers and Team Leaders onsite overseeing every project 24 hours a day, becoming an extension of their clients business. The senior management team bring along their individual industry experience and areas of expertise, enabling them to support key areas on each project.
Supporting some of the North East’s most prestigious OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with multiple engineering projects. SMS have also worked with the launch of a new model with the validation of new components and engineering re-works. Assisting with incoming inspection of components from over-seas suppliers, protecting the build integrity of the production line, either at their client’s site or at their sorting location where they managed the distribution of parts and segregation of non-conforming material.
The team have also assisted a client with relocation to a new site including project management and validation of operating performance. They also support their current clients with recruitment in particular productions heads, where they have over 150 staff across multiple sites.
SMS have recently delivered projects in the US & Europe which has led them to a high-end client, Bugatti. Due to their network and contacts with senior management in Automotive and other industries, they have been tasked with providing Bugatti with project management and EV support in Croatia and Italy.
Whilst exhibiting at EMCON 2021, SMS were introduced to exhibitors ValueChain and FitFactory who identified the application that had been developed could be shared with other industries within the manufacturing sector. In partnership a system was created to bridge the gap of how manufacturing data is recorded for shop floor KPI’s, removing paper to support the digital transformation of key areas in a business for everyday data recording.
