In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day 2026, the Engineering and Manufacturing Network invites experienced professionals, graduates, students, apprentices and educators from across the region to join an open and honest roundtable discussion on the future of women in engineering and manufacturing.
Despite progress across industry, women still remain significantly underrepresented within engineering and manufacturing roles. In the UK, women make up around 16-17% of the engineering workforce, with even lower representation in senior technical and leadership positions. At a time where skills shortages continue to impact the sector, attracting and retaining diverse talent has never been more important.
This collaborative roundtable chaired by Jessica Williams will bring together business leaders, industry professionals and future talent to discuss:
- Barriers to entry into engineering and manufacturing careers
- Retention, visibility and progression of women within industry
- How businesses can create more inclusive pathways and cultures
- The role of education, outreach and industry collaboration
- Practical actions to strengthen the future workforce across the North East
This is not a lecture or panel event. It is a collaborative discussion designed to encourage shared experiences, practical solutions and stronger regional connections between industry, educators and most importantly – female engineers & manufacturers. Further events and forums to be held following the outcome of this initial session.
