Paul will give an overview of Wessingtons capabilities, with past and future market opportunities in hydrogen – a new and growing market opportunity in the North East.

The hydrogen market in the North East of England is experiencing significant growth, driven by government support and industry initiatives.

Government Backing for Low Carbon Hydrogen: The UK government is actively supporting low carbon hydrogen production. Over £21 million of government funding was allocated to seven projects across the country . These projects aim to produce green hydrogen for buses, trucks, and trains, while also assisting local businesses in transitioning away from natural gas.

The UK Hydrogen Strategy estimates that, by 2030, it could unlock over 12,000 jobs and up to £11 billion of investment. Analysis by the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative suggests that the global market for hydrogen technologies will be in the order of $1trn per annum by 2050 representing around ten percent of the total value of the global hydrogen economy.
