Supply Chain Management is a crucial area of business operation and can cover many roles such as buyer, procurement manager, logistics manager, inventory manager, fulfilment manager and supply chain manager. Studying this programme you will benefit from specialised modules and a business project based on practical problems with real companies. The modules have been developed considering the needs of today’s supply chain professionals, taking into account key supply chain operational areas and the skills needed to succeed in this important role.

The programmes blended delivery means that you can benefit from Durham’s expertise in supply chain management with limited study time in Durham, making this programme a possibility for international students. The programmes delivery mode acknowledges the global nature of the sector, international demand and Durham’s own commitment to sustainability. You can benefit from our expertise without the need to frequently attend sessions in Durham with the associated travel and accommodation costs. You are required to attend a maximum of five week-long on-campus study sessions over the 2-years (see below for details).

There is a strong demand across industries for supply chain professionals who possess functional supply chain skills along with high levels of communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills combined with analytics and data science as well as an overall strategic understanding of business. The programmes modules have been designed enable you to develop these skills.

This programme will make you well-equipped to advance your career across supply chain functions or take up operations, supply chain and digital transformation consultancy roles. The programme aims to meet specific functional and generic skills required for the accreditations of CILT and CIPS (to be sought). Accreditation by CILT and CIPS will recognise your professional knowledge and make you valued and attractive to employers upon your successful graduation. Accreditatation is currently being sought for the programme. The strategic supply chain project will provide an opportunity for you to work on a real supply chain problem and a high-quality project is expected to enhance your standing with current or prospective employers.

By choosing this programme you will also benefit from our partnership with the University of Mannheim, one of Germany’s top universities. They will deliver 3 of your modules (1 core and 2 elective modules) along with assessment and support for the duration of the module. This adds an international dimension to your studies.

Course Structure
This programme benefits from a blended learning approach, with some modules featuring a week on-campus
Years 1 to 2
Year 1 – Term 1

These two core modules will each include a week on-campus learning at Durham followed by online learning. (15 credits * 2 = 30 credits)

  1. Fundamentals of Operations and Supply Chain Management
  2. Data Science for Business

Term 2

The next set of core modules follow the same model of one week on-campus, followed by the remaining teaching online.  Note that one module will be taught at Durham and one at the University of Mannheim so the on-campus week will be hosted at the University leading the module. (15*2= 30 credits)

  1. Sustainable Supply Chain Management (offered face-to-face at Durham followed by online delivery)
  2. Strategic Procurement (offered face-to-face followed by online delivery by University of Mannheim)

Term 3

In term 3 you will choose 2 electives which are taught entirely online. (15*2 = 30 credits)

  1. Strategic Sourcing
  2. Service Operations and Analytics
  3. Digital Supply Chain
  4. Global Supply Chain and International Logistics Management

Year 2

Term 1

Two electives to choose from. (15*2 =30 credits)

  1. Supply Chain Analytics
  2. Supply Chain Risk Management
  3. Advanced Forecasting
  4. Applied Seminar on Procurement

Term 2

In year 2, you’ll choose two elective modules which will be taught in the blended model: one week on-campus and the remaining module taught online.  Modules led by Durham will have the on-campus week at Durham.  One elective is offered by the University of Mannheim and is taught over a full week, with students attending the University for block teaching and the remainder of the module will involve independent study.

You will then progress onto the Strategic Supply Chain Project where you will conduct individual research on an issue with the support of a supervisor.
