Exports have a huge part to play in economic growth and prosperity, with exporting businesses more competitive, productive and profitable. The government has set an ambitious target to boost the UK’s annual exports to £1 trillion by 2030, as part of its new export strategy.

This Insider breakfast, in association with the Department for Business and Trade, will shine a light on export capabilities here in the north. We will look at a range of sectors, and differing sizes of businesses, to highlight the opportunities and challenges underlining these markets.

The North East has a strong history of exporting, particularly in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and energy, as well as in digital and professional services. Its reputation in providing high quality goods and services, with highly skilled and motivated workforces, is recognised and valued across the world.

Speakers will be able to share their experiences of exporting and offer practical advice around strategy, investment and regulation – featuring established overseas traders to early-stage businesses taking their first steps internationally.

The panel will offer insights into leading export markets such as Europe, the US and Asia to explain how they differ in terms of culture, pricing strategies and standards. They will also offer insight into legislation changes following Brexit and the government’s new Free Trade Agreements to help businesses acquire the skills, contacts and confidence to start exporting or break into new markets.

This event is the last in the series of export events. The first took place in Yorkshire, followed by the North West which looks at the Dynamic Dozen and how to unlock global markets, coming up on the 16th January.
