1. What does JKL Mouldings do?

Established back in 1971, JKL Mouldings are a trade plastic injection moulding company based in Durham. With a site now exceeding 60,000sq ft, we are able to provide a full turnkey solution for our customers. We are accredited to ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015

The site itself consists of office buildings, production area, toolroom, assembly and paint departments, metrology department and 900 euro pallet bay warehouse.

We are able to fully manage and guide projects through initial design phase, including product feasibility, right through to trial, approval and mass production. We can also manage the transfer of existing work, getting the tools prepped, assessed, trialled and refurbed if need be, ready to be validated in our presses.

The production area has 27 injection moulding machines ranging from 35T to 850T most with automation, we also have a blow moulding cell. With continuous investment over recent years, all plant equipment is less than 10 years old. A comprehensive array of ancillary equipment, including hot runner controllers, hydraulic valve gate controllers and dehumidifying driers, allows us to run complex tooling and engineering grade polymers.

With an onsite toolroom and preferred toolmaker on the same estate, we are able to quickly and efficiently complete any repairs,  modifications or simply perform routine maintenance tasks with very short lead times.

Our comprehensive assembly department with over 20 individual workstations are able to carry out almost every post production process that you may require. Including, sonic welding, multi-part assembly, hot melt gluing, painting, electrical assembly, pad printing, labelling, inspection….the list goes on.

Full traceability of all product through our factory is achieved with QR Lot code tracking as standard. Flowing into our 900 Euro pallet bay warehouse which is covered with a comprehensive MRP system. This allows the most efficient and robust control of our entire supply chain.

  1. What makes JKL Mouldings great?

The people! JKL Mouldings is one of the regions largest independent moulders. Sole ownership now lies with Neil Brooks who succeeded his father Kevin in 2001, one of the companies original founders back in 1971.

The wealth of knowledge within the business has been retained over the years with a very low staff turnover. All key personnel have been with the company in excess of 10 years, the majority 20 years plus. All technical roles are time served, most via South West Durham training centre at Newton Aycliffe and the PTC at Telford.

The dependability, flexibility, knowledge and dedication of our workforce allows us to consistently exceed the needs and expectations of our customers. We firmly believe that we will not be beaten on value for money, high quality mouldings. Quality, cost and delivery performance is central to everything we do.

  1. What is your 5 year plan?

Back in 2018 we restructured and downsized, making a conscious effort to move away from the high volume automotive sector due to the volatility. We reduced the headcount to below 50. Prior to 2018 we operated with up to 135 personnel. From 2018 to date we put the business on to a more robust footing and started to rebuild with a more diverse customer base.

Over the next 5 years the intention is for further steady, controlled growth across all sectors, including higher volume automotive, to raise the turnover from the existing £5.2m to a target of £6.5m+, more in line with the size of our site.

We will achieve this by growth within our current customer base and also by raising the profile of the company and promoting its capabilities through the likes of EMCON and NEAA. A new updated website, social media platforms and the recruiting of a new Business Development Manager will help us achieve our goals.
