
An established and respected family-run plastic injection moulding company based in Newton Aycliffe, Formula Plastics recently completed a Clean and Lean Skills Bootcamp
with support from the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.
With over 20 years of experience serving various sectors, Formula Components boasts a skilled team of engineers, quality management, production and logistics staff, who excel at bringing products to life.Formula Components took advantage of the Clean and Lean Skills Bootcamp offered through the North East Local Enterprise Partnership via UCQ.

The programme is designed for those seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills to work in an Advanced Manufacturing or Clean Room environment.Key components of the programme include safe clean room working, environmental sustainability, developing a Visual Management Systems (VMS) and creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored for advanced manufacturing.
Eighteen staff members from different parts of the business participated in training. As a result, the company has seen a positive shift, with new responsibilities being assigned to staff, including the development and maintaining the enhancement of SOPs aligned to certain work area.The overall productions has increased by 3% and the implementation of clean practices has significantly reduced waste materials managed by Setters and Supervisors across all three shift rotations.
Connor Barker-Darby, Production Manager at Formula Components, remarked, “The training was more than we expected. It was very informative and what was surprising is the impact that it has had on the business; staff are more aware of our SOP’s but most importantly overall production has increased by 3%. UCQ were very flexible running training across our three shift rotation to support all areas of the business.”
