SUMMARY:EMN EVENT: Finding solutions for South Tyneside NHS unmet needs.
DESCRIPTION:Many of you will remember and may have even attended our unmet needs with the NHS way back in early 2020 when we could meet together in a room! The event proved to be a huge success and has resulted in a number of our businesses now working with the NHS on a range of projects where their expertise and manufacturing capabilities has helped fulfil unmet needs. \nThis isn’t about creating the next wonder drug or building some sort of scientific wizardry but looks at providing practical and sometimes simple solutions to resolve a wide range of problems. These problems could include literally any form of manufacturing or engineering. \nWhilst we can no longer meet face to face at the moment we have decided to provide another event based on the same parameters but with different unmet needs. \nThis will be held via zoom on Thursday 28th January at 1pm and you can register by clicking the link at the foot of this email. \nWe will hear from Teresa Fortune who you will remember from our 2020 event. Teresa is Head of Innovation at South Tyneside and & Sunderland (ST&S) NHS FT and has worked supporting translational research and the economic and business development of the UK life sciences and healthcare sector since 2004. As Healthcare Specialist Lead with the Regional Development Agency\, One North East\, she lead on strategy realignment and developing key relationships and strategic projects with stakeholders\, including UKTI\, BIS\, DH\, pharma and local SMEs\, NHS and Academic partnerships \nSo please join Engineering & Manufacturing Network and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to understand the importance of innovation to the NHS\, the challenge of addressing unmet needs and how this is delivered within a regional NHS Trust.

SUMMARY:AFFILIATE EVENT: The global pandemic and its economic impact with Brewin Dolphins Investment Director Janet Mui.
DESCRIPTION:Janet Mui will be joining EMN to discuss the recovery of the market. Janet is investment director at Brewin Dolphin. As part of the research team\, Janet is responsible for the commentary and communication of Brewin Dolphin’s macro/investment views to clients and the media. She is a frequent guest on the BBC\, Bloomberg and CNBC on macro discussions. Janet joins Brewin Dolphin from Cazenove Capital\, the wealth management division of Schroders\, where she was global economist within the investment strategy team. During that time\, she was part of the investment committee and acted as the company’s chief spokesperson on macro issues. Janet has a first-class degree in economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Cambridge University. She speaks Cantonese and is fluent in Mandarin. She is a CFA charter holder. \nThe uneven “k-shaped” recovery: The pandemic has accelerated the shift toward a digital economy while sectors that involve a high-touch suffer disproportionately. The rising divergence amongst “winners” and “losers” and what it means for your investment. \n State of global trade: Global trade activities and supply chains have grinded to a halt at the height of the pandemic. What is the state of the recovery in trade and are we seeing any structural shift in trends? How does US-China relation fit into the whole picture? \n China’s new tech revolution: China is predicted to be the only major economy to see positive GDP growth in 2020. We discuss how this has given an edge on China’s ever-rising technology leadership and economic influence over the rest of world. \n

SUMMARY:AFFILIATE EVENT: Averting a Crisis: The Importance of Data Protection & Disaster Recovery in Manufacturing
DESCRIPTION:As a valued member of EMN\, we’d like to invite you to join us for this free\, in-depth webinar next week exploring how Disaster Recovery Planning can help ensure your manufacturing business is prepared for any future shutdowns and crises. \nThe session\, hosted by communications specialist Nice Network\, will focus on the current threats facing manufacturing businesses as we prepare for life post-pandemic. When it comes to Manufacturing\, we will discuss the main threats facing businesses\, what to be aware of\, and how you could better protect yourself from the inevitable. We will also delve into what you should look out for in your business and showcase solutions to better protect your data and business going forward. \nData protection and business continuity should be a boardroom agenda for all manufacturing businesses\, and we are delighted to be teaming up with Nice Network to deliver this session\, which we hope will add real value to your organisation. \nLimited spaces are available therefore early registration is highly recommended. \nAttendees will receive a free Amazon gift voucher and a guide to Disaster Recovery Planning. \nRegister now via:  https://nicenetwork.uk/event-registration/ \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:EMN EVENT: EMCONF Driving Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Following what has been a most extraordinary year we are now hopefully all thinking ahead to better times and moving towards the new normal. \nOver the last 6 months\, EMN have worked with its members on a range of support initiatives to help them manage their way through the various obstacles that COVID has presented. So that now begs the question as to how we can move forward and what is being done to support this by the various agencies available in the North East\, or to put it another way how do we ‘Drive Recovery’ beyond where we find ourselves now. \nHaving determined that our annual EMCON Show may not be viable in October this year we moved the date to March 8th 2021\, allowing sufficient time for confidence in our sector to build and peoples personal confidence to return. However\, when making our decision to delay we decided to hold the original EMCON date of Thursday\, October 8th and create a webinar designed specifically to help us in our current situation and discuss the process of recovery. \nWe are therefore very pleased to launch our first ‘Driving Recovery’ webinar for the region\, created by industry experts\, sme business owners and of course our strategic partners. \nPlease join us at 10am on October 8th via ZOOM and hear from professionals who can support your business. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/89268623171 \nThe morning will consist of a discussion between the North East and Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnerships as to their part in supporting the recovery process\, how the local authorities are driving regeneration and recovery and our keynote which will be announced very shortly! \nWe also want to present the opportunity for you to ask pertinent questions and as such will be seeking these in advance from attendees and via the Zoom comments forum on the day. \nWe look forward to seeing you all and continuing to help you in your journey.

SUMMARY:AFFILIATE EVENT: COVID-19 Does your business need to restructure\, reshape or resize?
DESCRIPTION:EMN have noticed with many of our businesses a need to restructure\, reshape or re-size their organisation. With many facing difficult decisions\, EMN will co-host an event with Jackson Hogg HR services to highlight important considerations \nWe could not have anticipated or prepared for the devastating effect of the current crisis on businesses or the people they employ. We appreciate that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has provided a lifeline for many organisations as well as for their people and families\,  but\, with imminent changes to this scheme\, many employers are faced with the decision of having to make potential redundancies. \nThe decision to downsize is not one any employer takes lightly and making an employee’s job redundant is never pleasant whether you are an experienced HR professional\, business owner or a line manager. \nWith proper consideration of available options and following a fair process\, you can minimise the effects on individuals as well as ensuring you protect your organisation. \n1.      Preparation \n2.      Employee Consultation \n3.      Redundancy Selection Criteria \n4.      Fair and transparent process \n5.      Potential alternatives to Redundancy \n6.      The Termination Process \n  \nThe webinar will end with a Q & A session and the option to ask questions on the chat throughout. Please feel free to send questions to kaye.collins@cdemn.org.uk or aoife.owens@jacksonhogg.com \nPlease click on the Eventbrite link below to register.

SUMMARY:EMN Event: Return to work COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:With the first phase of furloughing over and many businesses now looking to restart their operations\, we recognise this will be a difficult transition that dependant on your circumstances that could take quite some time. \nAt EMN we have created a ‘People Panel’ with the aim of sharing best practice from Tier 1 / OEM through to the smallest of SME. The topics covered are wide-ranging but of course\, at the moment we feel that a discussion around the return to work\, practicalities around this\, concerns of staff\, and everything else that this encompasses would be beneficial to our members. \nThe forum is one of an open discussion and we would very much like to have you as a part next week on Monday 11th at 2pm. This is an opportunity to share your business experiences and learn from your peers. Whilst there will be an agenda there will also be plenty of time for questions and answers by all participants. We thill be looking at sharing the information plus additional support in a COVID-19 help guide.
