SUMMARY:EMN EVENT: EMCON Show September 9th 2021
DESCRIPTION:For 12 years EMCON (formerly Durham Oktoberfest) has brought together thousands of visitors and exhibitors to share with the best of the region’s engineering and manufacturing community. We have heard from some of the region’s biggest industrial names and influencers whilst debating a wide range of topics that concern the sector. \nLongevity of that kind is never taken for granted and every year the team look for ways of improving the quality of the show whilst maintaining its core values. This year however is unprecedented\, with a situation that no one could have predicted affecting our global business community and individuals of all ages. \nEngineering Manufacturing Network who ‘own’ EMCON have deliberated for a number of weeks as to the best approach to progress the show for 2020. This has included conversations with the exhibitors and sponsors who had already booked for this year as to how best to progress with our plans. We recognise that even if things are back to ‘some kind of normal’ by October there will most likely still be concerns over large gatherings alongside our need to have sufficient time to deliver the quality of show you are used to. \nConsidering all of this we have made the decision to move the show into 2021 and are very pleased to announce a new date of 9th September 2021 \nWe know that you will look forward to joining us for what will be our 13th show as either an exhibitor or visitor\, sharing the capabilities of our incredible region and supporting the continued growth and of course recovery of our sector.

SUMMARY:AFFILIATE EVENT: Achieving Net Zero In Manufacturing. Practical Advice for SME's
DESCRIPTION:As the dust settles on a year that re-shaped our lives\, climate change has taken centre stage globally. Greater awareness and emphasis from government\, industry and prominent public figures has also been driven by added pressure from the general public to act. \nSustainability has moved sharply into a business-critical initiative and the green economy is expected to grow 4x faster than the UK economy as a whole\, while the investment into the green economy is growing >30% a year (Lloyds Bank Digital Index). The journey to net zero manufacturing must begin now. \nAccording to research from Lloyds Bank\, almost one third of SME manufacturers are aware of net zero and are taking action to achieve it\, while two-thirds either are unsure how to achieve it or don’t know how to influence a change in their business to do so (Lloyds Bank Digital Index). \nSo\, how can you capitalise on this opportunity? \nLloyds Bank and Autodesk have partnered to host an event to help SMEs in the UK focus their efforts. \nBy attending one of these events\, you can accelerate your journey towards net zero\, decode the climate-change-related jargon and take some few practical ideas away for your business. \nThese events are aimed at leadership teams within SME manufacturers in the UK. We have organised region-specific events for your convenience\, so please select the most appropriate event for you from the options in the registration page. \n  \nSouth West | Wednesday June 9 | 10:00am to 11:30am \nEast England | Thursday June 17 | 09:00am to 10:30am \nMidlands & South Wales | Tuesday June 22 | 09:00am to 10:30am \nNorth East | Thursday June 24 | 09:30am to 11:00am \nSouth East |  Wednesday June 30 | 10:00am to 11:30am \nLondon | Tuesday July 6 | 09:00am to 10:30am \nNorth West | Wednesday July 14 |  08:00am to 09:30am

SUMMARY:EMN EVENT: Finding solutions for South Tyneside NHS unmet needs.
DESCRIPTION:Many of you will remember and may have even attended our unmet needs with the NHS way back in early 2020 when we could meet together in a room! The event proved to be a huge success and has resulted in a number of our businesses now working with the NHS on a range of projects where their expertise and manufacturing capabilities has helped fulfil unmet needs. \nThis isn’t about creating the next wonder drug or building some sort of scientific wizardry but looks at providing practical and sometimes simple solutions to resolve a wide range of problems. These problems could include literally any form of manufacturing or engineering. \nWhilst we can no longer meet face to face at the moment we have decided to provide another event based on the same parameters but with different unmet needs. \nThis will be held via zoom on Thursday 28th January at 1pm and you can register by clicking the link at the foot of this email. \nWe will hear from Teresa Fortune who you will remember from our 2020 event. Teresa is Head of Innovation at South Tyneside and & Sunderland (ST&S) NHS FT and has worked supporting translational research and the economic and business development of the UK life sciences and healthcare sector since 2004. As Healthcare Specialist Lead with the Regional Development Agency\, One North East\, she lead on strategy realignment and developing key relationships and strategic projects with stakeholders\, including UKTI\, BIS\, DH\, pharma and local SMEs\, NHS and Academic partnerships \nSo please join Engineering & Manufacturing Network and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to understand the importance of innovation to the NHS\, the challenge of addressing unmet needs and how this is delivered within a regional NHS Trust.

SUMMARY:AFFILIATE EVENT: The global pandemic and its economic impact with Brewin Dolphins Investment Director Janet Mui.
DESCRIPTION:Janet Mui will be joining EMN to discuss the recovery of the market. Janet is investment director at Brewin Dolphin. As part of the research team\, Janet is responsible for the commentary and communication of Brewin Dolphin’s macro/investment views to clients and the media. She is a frequent guest on the BBC\, Bloomberg and CNBC on macro discussions. Janet joins Brewin Dolphin from Cazenove Capital\, the wealth management division of Schroders\, where she was global economist within the investment strategy team. She speaks Cantonese and is fluent in Mandarin. She is a CFA charter holder. \nThe uneven “k-shaped” recovery: The pandemic has accelerated the shift toward a digital economy while sectors that involve a high-touch suffer disproportionately. The rising divergence amongst “winners” and “losers” and what it means for your investment. \n State of global trade: Global trade activities and supply chains have grinded to a halt at the height of the pandemic. What is the state of the recovery in trade and are we seeing any structural shift in trends? How does US-China relation fit into the whole picture? \n China’s new tech revolution: China is predicted to be the only major economy to see positive GDP growth in 2020. We discuss how this has given an edge on China’s ever-rising technology leadership and economic influence over the rest of world. \n

SUMMARY:EMN EVENT: EMCONF Driving Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Following what has been a most extraordinary year we are now hopefully all thinking ahead to better times and moving towards the new normal. \nOver the last 6 months\, EMN have worked with its members on a range of support initiatives to help them manage their way through the various obstacles that COVID has presented. So that now begs the question as to how we can move forward and what is being done to support this by the various agencies available in the North East\, or to put it another way how do we ‘Drive Recovery’ beyond where we find ourselves now. \nHaving determined that our annual EMCON Show may not be viable in October this year we moved the date to March 8th 2021\, allowing sufficient time for confidence in our sector to build and peoples personal confidence to return. However\, when making our decision to delay we decided to hold the original EMCON date of Thursday\, October 8th and create a webinar designed specifically to help us in our current situation and discuss the process of recovery. \nWe are therefore very pleased to launch our first ‘Driving Recovery’ webinar for the region\, created by industry experts\, sme business owners and of course our strategic partners. \nPlease join us at 10am on October 8th via ZOOM and hear from professionals who can support your business. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/89268623171 \nThe morning will consist of a discussion between the North East and Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnerships as to their part in supporting the recovery process\, how the local authorities are driving regeneration and recovery and our keynote which will be announced very shortly! \nWe also want to present the opportunity for you to ask pertinent questions and as such will be seeking these in advance from attendees and via the Zoom comments forum on the day. \nWe look forward to seeing you all and continuing to help you in your journey.
