The Expanded Metal Company has launched a new range of home improvement products, in a move that will see it enter the DIY market and strengthen its offering to homeowners, smaller-scale builders and interior designers.

The Hartlepool-based firm – which is a pioneer in the design and manufacture of metal mesh solutions – has created specialist DIY meshes including products suitable for interior decoration, garden panels, BBQ grills, hutches, vermin and insect guards, leaf guards, vent covers and radiator grilles.

The meshes include pre-galvanised steel, stainless steel and aluminium products, all supplied from the company’s 25,000 sqm site in Hartlepool, a long-established global centre for expanded metal expertise.

They are available to purchase directly from The Expanded Metal Company’s e-commerce website.

The Expanded Metal Company, which has operated for more than 125 years, supplies high quality expanded metal mesh products for sectors including construction, architecture, filtration, engineering, transport, utilities, automotive and aerospace.

The company also develops and manufactures security solutions, such as fencing, gates and security meshes, through its ExMesh™ division.

It has a long-standing relationship with the building trade and has decades of experience in supplying products such as lath and rendering meshes, security meshes, bolt boxes, brick reinforcement meshes and balustrading meshes to construction companies and builders merchants.

The Expanded Metal Company’s meshes are also used extensively by shop-fitting contractors, interior designers and architectural firms, in applications including cladding, rain screens, shelving, walkways and display stands.

Philip Astley, managing director of The Expanded Metal Company, said: “The versatility and flexibility of our meshes mean that they can be used in a wide variety of home and garden improvement applications, from maintenance and repair work to decoration and furniture making.

“We’re proud to be able to offer a specialist DIY mesh range, which we are confident will meet the demands of this growing market, both domestically and internationally.

“And I’m delighted that we are able to manufacture high quality meshes for home improvement at our site in Hartlepool.”

The Expanded Metal Company works closely with contractors and end users to create bespoke solutions for their projects, drawing on its extensive design and manufacturing expertise, and high-class production capabilities.

The company was founded by John French Golding, the inventor and patentee of expanded metal – his first British patent was issued in 1884.
